In October 1995 Ford had come to India with Mahindra as Mahindra Ford and recently in October 2019, Mahindra and Ford renewed their vows with new prenuptial and announced that they would be coming together in a joint venture to roll out cars with shared technology and platforms. This was great news and two companies who have their established repute especially with SUVs were going to cater to the SUV hungry Indian market.
By doing this Ford has even insured its survival in the Indian market and seems to be a wise move.
Mahindra on the other hand is doing great research and development of engines at its Detroit base and it definitely will have an upper hand in future with electric cars. They also own Pininfarina, which should be able to help Mahindra in the design arena.
Ford is known for its built quality. Even if they have limited models in India, they are to swear by and very well suited to Indian roads. The Endeavour at the top end and Figo at the base are the sturdiest in their segment. People had some qualms about its fuel efficiency but with this marriage they would be using some of the new Mahindra engines that are fuel efficient.
The Marazzo looked really promising but somehow lacked the punch and didn’t rake the numbers it should have otherwise. The Marazzo and XUV 300 were a leap forward especially in terms of the interior quality which the XUV 500 lacked due to noisy plastics.
As we now know that Ford will be launching a new mid size SUV that will compete with the likes of Creta and the Seltos. This will probably be powered by a Mahindra engine. This will be an important and interesting one. This sounds a promising preposition and expectations should run high on this one.
Keep watching our space as we will definitely be keeping an eye on the upcoming Ford and Mahindra Cars.
