The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is a compact SUV that has gained popularity in the global market. The car is yet to be launched in the Indian market, but if the hype created during its unveiling at the Auto Expo 2020 is anything to go by, then we should expect a successful launch in 2021.
Suzuki has decided to offer the Indian market a slightly different Suzuki Jimny from what is currently in the global market by introducing a five-door design instead of the current three-door design. Apart from this change, the overall look will remain unchanged starting with the wheel base as well as the rear and back look. It will also encompass some security features from the 3-door Jimny like a lane-assist system, AEB and up to six airbags.
The car borrows its features and design majorly from Suzuki Gypsy, which has been a popular car in India since the 1980s when it was introduced. Some advanced features to expect from this SUV is a touchscreen with Android Auto, climate control, cruise control and lots of modern touches to its interior.
Since the automaker intends to target the domestic off-roader market, they’ve added both on and off-road capabilities. The 5-seater SUV will have a longer wheelbase to increase the cabin space, rigid axles at both the front and rear, and a chassis in the form of a ladder frame. It will also be a front-wheel-drive, but they may offer a four-wheel drive option with steel wheels for better off-road capabilities. The car will run on a four-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol engine so diesel lovers will have to contend with that as the Suzuki Jimny is not expected to feature a diesel engine.
According to Autocar India, production of the five-door Suzuki Jimny Sierra will commence later this year while its launch is slated for 2021. The SUV is projected to retail below Rs. 10 lakh. So we should expect a decent drive for a great price.
